Here I am signing Song of the Sword at Chapters in Regina on Saturday. This was not only the first time I sat and sold copies of the book and autographed them, it was the first time I'd even seen copies of the actual book. It's shinier than the ARC! Plus it has a nice blurb in the back of it promoting book two in the series, Twist of the Blade.
The only odd thing about this photo: it makes the store look deserted. In fact, it was very busy and I sold and signed more than a dozen books in the couple of hours I was there.
For bonus ...

There's a nice
big interview with me up at SciFiGuy.ca, mostly focused on the upcoming release of
Song of the Sword, Book 1 in The Shards of Excalibur. Alas, it's still the upcoming release because printer problems delayed it past the hoped for October 15, but they promise me it'll be ready at month's end--which is good, since I've got a signing coming up at Chapters here in Regina on November 6. (2 p.m. Be there! Well, unless you're reading this in, say, Miami. In which case, I won't look for you.)
I had a school reading last Friday at
W.S. ...

Another slow day in the bookstore signing books...just as slow as last week, alas. Which is not to say I didn't sell any on either occasion--I sold a few--but it's a bit discouraging all the same.
Today I was at
Book & Brier, and once again it was a beautiful day outside--warmest day of the year so far--which undoubtedly didn't help things. Even people who said they were coming didn't come. As I said (or at least Tweeted) last week, sometimes you feel like book-writing is a communicable disease, on the level of swine flu, or something, and so people are afraid to get too close. (Considering how many ...

Come down to the Chapters by the Southland Mall in Regina today from 2 to 4 p.m.; I'll be signing Terra Insegura (and Marseguro, too, probably).
Also, I could use the company. It's a very odd thing sitting at a table in a bookstore signing books. The looks you get range from the curious to the uninterested to the slightly-embarrassed-for-you. And you can have the oddest conversations with people who figure they've got a captive audience at last...

I've confirmed three signing events for
Terra Insegura so far, if you'd like to come out and get a signed copy and meet me in person. (Which might be interesting to some people, although I spend all day with me and sometimes I get pretty tired of myself.)
The first signing will be at the
Regina Chapters on Saturday, May 23, from 2 to 4 p.m. The following Saturday, May 30, I'll be at
Book & Brier Patch from 2 to 4 p.m.; this is the official book launch, and if there are enough people I'll do a reading there as well. Plus there'll be refreshments!
Then, on June 3 at 7 p.m., I'll be up ...

I had a pretty slow day today since I didn't go to any panels (because the ones I was interested in coincided with other things). First thing I did this morning was take the obligatory Photo From My Hotel Room Window.Once I'd been out and had coffee and all that stuff (I had a nice chat with artist
James Beveridge while I drank my second cup) I took a few turns through the dealer's room (and took a photo). It's quite different from the one at the World Science Fiction Convention: smaller, of course, since there are ...

Signing books at Book & Brier Patch today!
Posted by Edward Willett at 5:39, September 28th, 2008 under Blog |
I signed Marseguro for 2 1/2 hours at Smith Books in the Cornwall Centre on Friday, for two hours at Book & Brier on Saturday, and for two hours at Chapters on Sunday. Sold quite a few books, had some nice chats with people (not all of whom bought my book, the usual excuse being "I'm not into science fiction") and, as you can see, got my picture taken by my friend Sharon Eisbrenner, who kept me company at Book & Brier and showed up at the very end of the Chapters signing, too.Sold a few copies of Lost in Translation at ...

Well, that went pretty well.
McNally-Robinson did indeed have
Lost in Translation (already signed, though, since I signed their entire stock on my last trip up here), A Safe and Prosperous Future and
Genetics Demystified on hand. I signed two or three books and talked to several school librarians, so it was all good. And I had a nice chat with my table-mate,
Glenda Goertzen, whose first book,
The Prairie Dogs, came out recently from Fitzhenry-Whiteside, and whose sequel,
City Dogs, will be out soon.As promised, I have pictures! First of all, I'm at the
Saskatoon Inn, a place one does not go to in order to admire the surrounding scenery:...
