Help me choose between two cover art options for Star Song

I'm working toward self-publishing Star Song (as I mentioned in this week's book giveaway starting post), and today I spent some time playing with cover ideas. I've got two choices thus far, so I'm soliciting opinions. Which of the two covers below do you like best...and why? Here's the one-paragraph description of the novel: Kriss Lemarc is alone on a remote planet where he doesn't belong. The guardian who raised him in a backwoods village has been murdered. His parents died when he was a baby. His only link to them is a strange musical instrument that pulls his innermost feelings to the surface and pours them into the minds of his listeners. Kriss plans to take that instrument off-world and trace ...

Cover art for Right to Know

Here's the gorgeous cover for my upcoming science fiction novel Right to Know, coming out from Bundoran Press in August (we'll be launching it at When Words Collide in Calgary: launch party planned for Saturday night, August 10!) The artwork is by Dan O'Driscoll--I'm planning to use him for Star Song, the YA novel I serialized on here a while ago, when I finally get around to independently publishing it. Right to Know is available for pre-order now on Amazon and other sites. Here's the blurb: Right to Know by Edward Willett, the Aurora-winning author of over fifty books, is a fast-paced space opera about first ...

Free Novel Saturday: Star Song, the final two chapters

Every Saturday I've been posting a chapter or two of my young adult science fiction novel Star Song...and here, at last, is the thrilling (I hope) conclusion! First visit? The whole thing starts here with Chapter 1 and an explanation. Enjoy! Star Song By Edward Willett Chapter 30 “How?” Tevera cried. “I don’t know. It doesn’t matter. He’s here.” They had lost, Kriss knew bitterly. Gemfire was heavily armed; the Thaylia, though she carried weapons, could not hope to stand against the golden ship’s firepower. They could do nothing to stop Vorlick from taking the fortress. But ...
