The first sentence, and the last two words, I wrote today

The first sentence I wrote today:

The first thing Richard saw, as he started to climb out, was the towering cloud of dust and smoke to the east, behind the first range of mountains.

The last two words I wrote today:

THE END

Yay!

So, here’s the final tally:

Total words: 109,298
Final batch of words written: 4,300
Percentage complete: 100!

Now, of course, I go back to the beginning, prune and enhance and simply and complexify and stamp out whatever inconsistancies I can find, and then, at last, turn it in, after which…well, after which my editor will get back to me with more things that need reworking and rewriting.

And you know what? I’m looking forward to it. I like writing first drafts, but I think I enjoy rewriting even more.

Onward and upward, but ladies and gentlemen, there’s no question about it: I went and wrote another book.

Congratulations, Ed! You’re the first writer I’ve heard say that he likes rewriting more than the first draft. I’m just back from travelling and am going to start serious work on the second draft and judging from the couple of chapters I’ve already overhauled, I think I might echo your sentiments. Glad to know I’m not that weird after all.

Well over a year; I think Terra Insegura is expected to be out about a year from now, and I sold this past fall.

Congrats! Out of curiosity, how long usually between the sale of the treatment and sales in stores?
