Photo of the (Yester)day: Me reading in Saskatoon

I made the trek up to Saskatoon yesterday, killing two birds with one stone: I met with two of the girls I’m mentoring through the Saskatchewan Writers Guild’s Youth Mentorship Program, and then read from Marseguro at McNally Robinson bookstore. Both events were successful, although you have to wonder if it’s worth it when you’re reading to, in this case, nine people.

Here I am in the “art alcove” (because it’s the alcove where all the art books are), either reading something very serious or worrying that that pizza I had for supper is about to turn bad.

Oh, I was thrilled they were there and I think they had a good time. I don’t regret the trip at all, but it was costly!

Edward, I’m surprised you question if the trip to read with readers was worth your time. Pooh pooh. The nine folks that headed out to join you all probably filled their tanks with gas, bought bus tickets, or inflatted their bike tires to make the trip to be with you.

I’m thrilled when folks show up to my readings. I had a gent come up to me before the reading to tell me that he might have to dash mid-reading, no offense he said, but the sap was expected to run and he had just emerged from the bush after Sugaring Off. I smiled politely not knowing what sugaring off meant but when he said he dashed out of the forest to catch my reading while waiting for his buckets to fill with sap – hell I know he wanted to be there. And I was thrilled to have him. Your nine readers probably went home that night and said either a) wow – he’s still awesome, or b) he seemed to be preoccupied with the pizza he had for dinner. Hopefully the nine readers from Saskatoon enjoyed every word you shared and will invite you back!
