Hassenpfeffer (n): A highly seasoned stew of marinated rabbit meat.
Welcome to Hassenpfeffer, a brand-new blog by American-living-in-Canada science fiction, fantasy, non-fiction and computer author Edward Willett.
No doubt you are already thinking to yourself, “Hassenpfeffer! That’s a stupid name for a blog!”
Au contraire. It is the perfect name for a blog–or, at least, for this blog. If you will refer to the definition above:
1. “Highly seasoned.” What better goal for a blog than to be highly seasoned with (among other things) wicked wit, astonishing analysis, fascinating facts, lovely links, powerful prose, and annoying alliteration?
2. “Stew.” A stew implies a variety of ingredients, which this blog most assuredly will have.
3. “Marinated.” Something that has been marinated has absorbed interesting flavors through soaking in a tasty sauce. This blog, similarly, will reflect the interesting ideas I have absorbed through my daily soaking in the tasty sauce of the Internet (and other elements of my day-to-day life).
4. “Rabbit meat.” And, um, this stands for…uhh….oh, I’ve got it! “Rabbit meat” is the perfect metaphor for the way this blog will hop from topic to topic, and yet still provide intellectual nourishment!”
5. Finally, “Hassenpfeffer” sounds a lot like “SFfer,” which is what I am, through and through: a science fiction writer and reader who looks at everything through the lens of the SF I’ve read and written.

I hope you find Hassenpfeffer a tasty dish!

Doesn’t everyone?
Well, that and the theme song to Laverne & Shirley. If you’re of a certain age.
I immediately think “Bugs Bunny” when I see/hear the word “Hassenpfeffer”!
Indeed he was. And like many children of my era, I was imprinted with all the Bugs Bunny cartoons at an early age.
Wasn’t Bugs Bunny occasionally afraid of being turned into Hassenpfeffer?
