Time to hire an editor…

This press release from Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory begins:

If the world continues to burn greenhouse gases, California may have an increased risk of winter floods and summer water shortages, even within the same year.

Um…we don’t burn greenhouse gases. We burn hydrocarbons. The carbon combines with oxygen in the atmosphere to create carbon dioxide, which is a greenhouse gas. I guess you can burn methane, which is a greenhouse gas, produced by ruminant digestion and rotting vegetation in swamps, among other things, but if you burn it, you produce, once again, carbon dioxide. And you can’t burn carbon dioxide.

Awfully sloppy writing for a release from a major national laboratory!
