I’m back!

Back in Regina, that is, albeit it briefly since I’m away again this weekend for my niece’s wedding down Glentworth way. My science column posted last night will serve as my con report from ConVersion, I think, although I did want to add a link to this year’s Writers at the Improv story.

In Writers at the Improv, teams of writers (this year I was teamed with YA writer Leslie Carmichael) come up with sentences based on words provided by the audience. The audience chooses which team’s sentence it likes best each time, and that goes into the story. In such a way is a story built.

Besides myself and Leslie, the other teams consisted of R. Scott Bakker and Valerie King, Anna Maria Bortolotto and Calvin D. Jim, and Barbara Geiger and Katie Harse. Aside from R. Scott Bakker, Leslie Carmichael and myself, all writers are members of the Imaginative Fiction Writers’ Association, Calgary’s genre fiction writers’ group.

You can read this year’s story here. All the writers’ endings are provided. The main story contains two of my sentences. I leave it as an exercise for the reader to figure out which ones are mine.

CORRECTION: Leslie Carmichael emailed me to gently point out that in fact she is a member of the Imaginative Fiction Writers’ Association. In fact, she says, she was “one of the people who started the group way back in the mists of time.” Sorry, Leslie!

I couldn’t answer this until we got back…

We went through Lafleche, because we were staying in Gravelbourg.

I used to skate in Glentworth all of the time as a kid. Did you go through Wood Mountain or Lafleche?
