Why do I blog thee? Let me count the ways…

So who needs a psychiatrist:

For nearly half of 600 bloggers surveyed, blogging is a form of therapy, America Online said Friday, referring to research conducted by Digital Marketing Services….About 31 percent of bloggers said that, in times of high anxiety, instead of seeking any counseling, they either write in their blogs or read blogs of others facing similar issues, the report said.

Hmmm…no, not me. What else is in the survey?

Around a third say they write frequently about subjects such as self-esteem and self-help…nope…16 percent blog because of an interest in journalism…well, I have a degree in journalism, but that’s not why I blog…12 percent do it to remain on top of news and gossip…science news, maybe, gossip? Nope…eight percent are interested in exposing political information…no, not particularly (“exposing” political information? what a strangely conspirazoid way to put it).

So why do I blog? Just because I’m a writer, I think, which means I’m afflicted with that terribly egotistical notion that people actually care what I think, or might be (or at least ought to be) interested in the same things I’m interested in.

Also, there’s always the possibility someone who has read one of my books might want to know what else I’ve written, and so will come here and actually buy another of my books, thus generating another buck or two (literally) of income.

But, alas, “self-aggrandizement” and “self-marketing” were apparently not among the options covered in the survey, and so once again those of us in the oversized-ego community are left unrepresented.
