Pat Metheny won a jazz Grammy tonight…
…which reminded me of the time I heard him play live, in a jazz club in Chicago in 1999. I’d love to say it was a life-changing experience, or at least an awesome concert, but in fact I pent part of the evening crouched over the toilet in the men’s room not throwing up but wishing I could, thanks to what was probably food poisoning (though no one else in my group was ill) and only made it back to the hotel without throwing up in the gutter by some miracle of God’s grace. The night that followed is not one of my most pleasant memories, and probably not one of the best memories of my roommate that evening, either.
Anyway, congrats to Pat Metheny. I just wish I could remember anything about hearing him play that wasn’t connected to nausea.
