December 20: Deadline!

For those who recall (what? you didn’t take notes?) that today is the deadline for my new novel for DAW to be turned in, and are wondering whether I in fact made the deadline, the answer is…yes and no.

Yes, I wrote the book and just this morning reached THE END on the revision. So I COULD have submitted it today if I had to.

The good news, however, is that I don’t have to; I asked my editor, Sheila Gilbert, if I could have a couple of more weeks to give it one more good polish, and she, God bless her, said yes–the DAW offices are closed between Christmas and New Year’s so nothing was going to happen with it until January anyway.

So, once more through the manuscript to get it in the very best tip-top shape I can manage and hopefully squash any remaining internal inconsistency bugs, and off it will go to DAW.

It’s still untitled though. Possibilites abound: any comments would be welcome on…

Purification
The Purification
The Purification of Mercasero
Mercasero
The Selkies’ Revenge
Ocean of Blood

Would you buy an SF book with any of those titles?

(Less-serious ideas keep running through my head too, of course. Untitled Science Fiction Novel has already been shot down, alas. The Hansen Clones sounds like either a strange modern take on a vaudeville act, or SF porn. The Moddie Squad? I don’t think so. The Wild, Wild Wet? Waterworld? Don’t go there. The Adventures of Richard and Emily? See the reference to porn, above. The Kid, the Clone, and the Genetically Modified Girl? Showgills? Mermaidia? [Those with small girl children will appreciate that reference.] The possibilities are endless…and mostly bad.)
