Two shows down, three to go

Well, we (Regina Lyric Light Opera, that is) have two performances of Oklahoma! under our belts (or suspenders, actually, for the most part) and it’s going really well. Good houses both opening night and last night, and standing ovations both nights.

I’m enjoying playing Jud. We’ve humanized him quite a bit from some productions, so that several people have told me they actually sympathize with him, which is exactly what I’m trying to achieve with my performance, so that’s nice to hear.

And, of course, “Lonely Room” is a great song. Lots of angst, and it fits my voice perfectly, so I can really let go at the end and bellow at full volume. It clears the cobwebs out of my brain (although it doesn’t really help with the ringing in my ears from the two gunshots earlier in the scene, but you can’t have everything).

The opening night reception at Zest Restaurant was a lot of fun, too.,

Tonight I believe the Lieutenant Governor, The Honourable Gordon L. Barnhart, will be in attendance. Then there’s one more evening show tomorrow, our matinee on Sunday, and it’s all over.

Again, if you’re in the Regina area, be sure to come see us. The show runs at 8 p.m. tonight and Saturday, 2 p.m. on Sunday, in the University Theatre, Riddell Centre, University of Regina. Tickets are $20 and are avaialble at Bach & Beyond in the Golden Mile Centre or at the door. You can still get tickets for Saturday and Sunday online, as well, at www.reginalyric.com, but online ticket sales for tonight’s show have been cut off.
