When black holes collide

Scientists have produced the best simulation yet of the gravity waves produced by colliding black holes.

You don’t have to know anything about the science involved to enjoy the fruits of their labours in this video clip, which represents something that would take just an hour or so in real time but took 2,000 processors several days to produce.

Simulating the results of such a collision tells scientists what they should look for as they seek the real thing in the heavens.
