Analysis of the cranium of the tiny human fossils recently found in Indonesia confirms that their brains had avanced features–and that Homo floresiensis was indeed a distinct species.
Which is all very interesting, but what strikes me is that every news story about Homo floesiensis refers to them as “hobbits” or “hobbit-like.”
I wonder what Tolkien would have thought to discover that the creatures he invented with a single line scrawled on a blank examination paper have taken on new life as actual scientific specimens of early humanity?
Not that I’m suggesting Tolkien was writing history, but…
Has it not occurred to anyone that Indonesia is also known for…volcanoes?
Any likely candidates for Mt. Doom in the vicinity?
