..., Little Miss Christie, is
in today's LeaderPost. An excerpt:"We have some really strong performers," she says. "And it's a light-hearted show. It's an easy couple of hours to sit through and be entertained."While the audience is being entertained, the students will be making memories."It gives them a chance to be someone other than themselves. You get to step outside of who you are and put on a different hat," Tressel-Constable says.As well, there's "a feeling of accomplishment from putting something together from beginning to end ... I hope they'll take away an experience that they'll remember -- of all the things they do during high school."

...,Big Bands to Broadway, is in today's
Regina LeaderPost. An excerpt:Leora Joy Godden, Mark Oddan, Jeffrey Pufahl, Kaitlyn Semple, and Tahirih Vejdani sang a selection of current and past Broadway hits, interspersed in the first act with numbers by the RSO Big Band. Accompanying the singers were the full orchestra and, sometimes, the Halcyon Chamber Choir, directed by Hart Godden (who also arranged many of the pieces and assisted with the staging).Godden, Semple and Vejdani, the "Andrews Sisters" in last fall's RSO Remembrance Day concert, once again demonstrated pitch-perfect blend and sharp, clear diction. Throw in Pufahl's rich baritone and Oddan's crisp tenor, and the result was a quintet capable of doing justice to a ...

I've been a bit slack on these entries, but I have a good excuse: this is opening week for
Persephone Theatre's Beauty and the Beast, so my focus has been pretty much entirely on the show. We had our first show in front of an audience Tuesday (an invited dress rehearsal), then previews Wednesday and last night, plus a school matinee yesterday afternoon (a lot of fun with a show like this; the kids loved it).Tonight is opening night, which means this afternoon we had our final rehearsal. Which also means that starting tomorrow I'll have a lot more time free during the day, which is good, because I have writing that needs doing: both ...

From Darla Biccum (one of our cast member)'s
Facebook page, here we are rehearsing Beauty and the Beast yesterday. This is the end of Be Our Guest. I'm the tall fellow on the right who has bravely taken off his dust mask to sing.Today we did cue-to-cue of Act I, and this show being what it is, with the number of set changes, costume changes and lighting changes it has, it took us all day.The dust wasn't quite as bad today since fewer people were working on site. My biggest problem: I hurt my back in the wolf scene. ...

We moved into the new Persephone Theatre today. It was certainly an interesting experience, since construction continued unabated while we checked spacing for
Beauty and the Beast on stage. Dust hung so thick in the air that, as you can see in the second photo below, many of us were wearing dust masks most of the day. Various power tools, mixed with hammering, made portions of songs and dialogue completely inaudible at times. The power went out to the piano a couple of times. But we carried on regardless, and noticeable progress was made on construction while we were there. Here's the theatre as it looked at 2 p.m. today (well, yesterday, actually, since it's almost 1 a.m. ...

...well, yesterday, actually, since I'm writing this after midnight (just got back a little while ago from seeing Enchanted; can't wait to take my daughter to see it. I loved it, and judging by all the laughter in the theatre, so did everyone else. It had particular resonance since I'm currently in the middle of a Disney musical myself. The quote of the theme song from Beauty and the Beast playing as background music to a TV soap opera in which a woman was telling a man she couldn't love someone who didn't love himself particularly leaped out at me, for obvious reasons.)Anyway, here's the sentence:Andy King sat in the command chair on the bridge and ...

...but it turns out there was an error in my
Persephone Theatre contract and I really am playing Monsier D'Arque, as I originally thought, not Maurice, in the upcoming production of Beauty and the Beast. That's life upon the wicked stage, I guess. It makes more sense, though; I thought I would be an odd choice for Maurice, but I was willing to run with it.C'est la vie!

I mentioned a while back that I'll be part of the cast of
Persephone Theatre's Christmas production of
Beauty and the Beast in Saskatoon. I thought I was playing Monseiur Dark, but I received my contract today and I'm actually being signed on to play Maurice, Belle's father. I'm pleased, to say the least, although of course I'm really much much too young to play the father of a grown...oh, who am I fooling.I don't remember if I've mentioned my other musical adventure for fall. In October, I'll be joining the
Canadian Chamber Choir for their project in Vineland, Ontario, with a number of workshops and concerts planned for the area. I've received the music, ...
