June 28, 2004: Writing Diary

This being Monday, I had to devote a couple of hours to preparing my science column for the week. The column starts off at about 1,300 words for CBC Radio; then I edit it down to 750 words for my e-mail subscribers and the Red Deer Advocate; then I edit it down to about 470 words for the Leader-Post (although I’ve been moved to a different page and I think they now want something longer).

This week’s topic: Virtual Reality. I’ll post the 750-word version here tomorrow (which is almost today–I sat up late to watch the election returns; Liberal minority government with the NDP holding the balance of power, if you must know).

I got in another good hour-plus on my new YA fantasy; wrote another scene from Wally’s point of view that wasn’t in the original version. I’m enjoying working on the book very much.

Then I had to spend some more time on my genetics book proposal. That has to go to the editor tomorrow, and it needs a couple of more hours at least, so I’m not sure I’ll get much fiction done tomorrow. We’ll see!

Now to sleep, perchance to dream…
