Writing Diary: June 30 & July 1, 2004

Yesterday felt quite productive, mainly because I finished up and sent off my proposal for the genetics book–which, I found out today, “sailed through” the pre-Editorial meeting at the publisher, which, in turn, means I can probably expect a contract offer in a few more days. Yay!

I also plugged away at Excalibur Reforged, of course. I still haven’t decided what to do with the scene I talked about in the last diary entry. Right now, I’m leaving it as is; maybe I’ll wait until I’ve shared the book with a couple of trusted critiquers and see what their thoughts are.

In the meantime, I plunged ahead with more straight-forward rewriting–tightening up language, catching inconsistancies, that sort of thing.

No writing today because it’s Canada Day. (Picture a waving Maple Leaf here.) But tomorrow I hope to get started on the actual writing of my biography of Orson Scott Card (part of yesterday was spent printing out reams of material from interviews found online…you can’t say OSC isn’t willing to answer questions!), and that’ll be my main focus now for the next while, because the darn thing is a month past its deadline already…

As Douglas Adams, I believe, said, “I love deadlines. I love the whooshing sound they make as they fly by.”
