Moon of Three Rings…

…was one of the books that I loved as a kid, one of the books that really solidified my love of science fiction. I devoured everything I could find by Andre Norton after that.

Boy, does that cover art bring back memories.

J. G. Stinson, who must be about my age, had the same experience. He recently re-read Moon of Three Rings, and writes about the experience at SF Site.

    Oh, yes: Moon of Three Rings! I LOVED it! My first Andre Norton — when I was in 7th grade — was Judgment on Janus, another transformation story. After that I went on to devour the rest of her books and Moon of Three Rings was my favorite. From this review I think I’m going to have to find it and read it again!

    Andree? I always thought maybe it should have been André.

    I’m currently reading (as you’ll see if you scroll way down and look in the sidebar where it says “I’m currently reading”) Three for Scorpio, one of Norton’s last books. I read another of her late works last year. In both cases, I’m sorry to say, I failed to find the magic I remember from her works I read as a teenager. I’m not sure if her writing changed, or my tastes changed. I think I’d better go back and re-read Moon of Three Rings.

    Memories, for sure. That story is still the one I think of when Norton’s name is mentioned. Although as a grammar purist, I do wish the name were Andree Norton… ;o)
