Toronto Reading: The Beaches

I know, I know, I’ve hardly been blogging at all for the last little while, except for posting my science columns. I went to Winnipeg for KeyCon and didn’t say a word about it. I’ve seen all kinds of interesting science articles and haven’t commented or linked. I’ve been a bad, bad blogger.

But I’ll try to do better, honest! Beginning with this exciting report on the first of two readings I’m doing in Toronto as part of the Toronto Public Library’s series of readings by Canadian speculative fiction writers, called Foresight: Speculative Fiction in Canada.

Tonight I read with Candas Jane Dorsey at the Beaches branch. That’s it over there. We read in a nice cozy room with lots of kid-friendly decorations and bright primary-colored chairs. I read from Marseguro and Candas read from a couple of different things, including a very funny story she’d written for the CBC about a Poet Laureate helping a futures trader recover his lost raison d’etre.

In the photo below I look like I’m highly suspicious of whatever it is Candas is saying, but I assure you that’s just a trick of the camera.

We had a smallish audience, but they seemed to enjoy it and I sold and signed several books. Among those in attendance were fellow SF Canada members Allan Weiss and Ursula Pflug, and afterward they, Candas and I went across the road for ice cream and mostly writing-related chat.

Before that, though, I had to go upstairs and photograph the beautiful second floor of the library, with its high vaulted ceilings. Now that‘s a library!

Tomorrow I’m off to the Centennial Branch, where I’m told there’s a very active teen group. I’ll be reading with Alison Baird. Should be fun!

The reading’s at 5 p.m. If you’re in the vicinity, come on by!
