Canadian Chamber Choir tour is getting close!

From October 18 to 25, I probably won’t be blogging much, if at all, because I’ll be touring Saskatchewan with the Canadian Chamber Choir.

Here’s the information about the tour from the official press release. If you’re in the neighborhood of one of our concerts, please come out! It’s a great group. We sing really purty-like.

The acclaimed Canadian Chamber Choir/Choeur de Chambre du Canada makes a long-anticipated return to Saskatchewan this month, bringing concerts and educational workshops to the west, centre and south of the province. The CCC is a unique group uniting professional singers from across the country which has garnered critical rave reviews and won fans across the country with its “extraordinary refinements … of dynamic shading,” “flawless intonation,” and “polished blend” (Montreal Gazette).

An emphasis on this project is youth: committed to choral education, CCC is excited to be collaborating with some of this country’s finest children’s and youth choirs and one university ensemble—right here in Saskatchewan. In addition, CCC will deliver workshops to no fewer than four high school choirs in the city of Saskatoon, as well as community youth choirs and church choirs elsewhere in the province.

In all, four concerts are planned.

• SASKATOON A five-day residency with the multi-award-winning Saskatoon Children’s Choir will culminate in a shared concert called “With Glowing Hearts” on Wednesday, October 22nd at Third Avenue United Church. Also featured on that programme is the University of Saskatchewan’s Greystone Singers.

• KINDERSLEY The CCC heads west on Tuesday, October 21st for an exclusive performance in Kindersley, hosted by the Kindersley United Church Choir.

• REGINA Friday, October 24th look for the CCC in Regina, where they perform a concert titled “From Sea to Sea” together with another nationally recognized youth choir, Juventus.

• THE BATTLEFORDS Wrapping up the tour is a concert on Saturday, October 25th with friends made on the CCC’s 2003 Saskatchewan Tour, the Kamala Youth Choir of North Battleford.

The programme to be performed is pure “CCC”—both pleasing and daring as it pulls together music from a variety of genres and periods, from choral classics like Robert Pearsall’s “Lay a Garland” for double choir, to a dazzling selection of works by no fewer than seven Canadian composers, both established and very recent to the scene (Jeff Enns, Jocelyn Morlock, and more!).

Artistic Director Dr. Julia Davids enthusiastically sums up the mission of the CCC: “There is a Canadian story to be told and the CCC is here to tell that story. The CCC’s passionate and exciting concerts build connections with audiences of all ages in all communities across Canada. Building connections is what music, and what life, is all about”.
