Dropped the dud like a spud and am now reading Lost in Translation by Edward Willett. A much better read. For one thing, there are flying monkey dog alien things. For another, someone gets skinned on page 10 and heads explode on page 18. There’s also this thing called plot involving people with odd names and telepathics. But back to the head explosions . . .
