The indefatigable Don D’Ammassa reviews Marseguro and isn’t entirely happy with it:
Although this was well enough written, I found myself uncomfortable with elements of the story. The fanaticism of the theocrats seemed a bit forced, even though current events should have convinced me that their excesses are entirely plausible. I think my problem is that Earth becomes a generic symbol for repression and something of a caricature, making the actual threat seem less plausible. The ending is emotionally satisfying, though perhaps a bit of a stretch in plausibility, and while the story is complete in itself, it leaves a hang line that could easily lead to a sequel.
Indeed it could. And has. Or will, if I ever finish the thing.
