The first sentence I wrote today…

…was technically:

“Have you checked the basement?”

Which is not only a very boring sentence, but one that will not appear in the finished book–because shortly after I wrote it, I realized I had taken a seriously wrong turn in my plot about four scenes back. So instead of writing new material today, I was rewriting scenes I wrote in the past couple of days, to ensure that I got one character (and important…let’s call it “cargo”) into orbit where they have to be for the rest of the book to pan out the way I envision.

So today’s new word count of 62,374 is actually lower than the one I posted yesterday.

First time that’s happened, and I hope it’s the last for the first draft.

The December 20 deadline is beginning to take on ominous looming qualities…
